I Love Discounts: Part 1

I arrived at my grandparent’s Country Club around 4pm this afternoon with my uncle.  I greeted the golf pro and asked him if it was cool if we jumped out to play 9 holes.  He said, ya go for it so I got my 4th free round of golf in 4 days.  To give you a frame of reference, the typical price for a round of golf at this course is $60, so I’ve saved over $200 in the last 4 days.  Pretty sweet, especially for a cheap jew like me!  I’m bragging because I want to help you get awesome deals and save lots of money.  Here are some awesome tips, please use them and send me 10% of whatever you save!

Tip #1: Just Ask: The best way to get discounts and free stuff is sooo simple, yet hardly anyone does it!  You would be shocked at the discounts and savings you can get by just asking for what you want.  I was at EZ Lube the other day with my dog, Wiley.  I was hanging in the waiting room while Wiley was sniffing around and scratching himself and I noticed the young looking grease monkey chick checking me and my dog out.  She was smiling so I knew that a discount was a brewing!  I got an oil change and some new wiper blades and the total came to $117.  I said “117 dollars, damn I promised my dog we would only pay $100.” “Ok, just give me $100,” she said.  SWEET!  I saw her go into the computer and type in “managers discount” -$17.  How easy was that!

Tip #2: Makes Friends: Let’s say I’m a country club golf pro who spends the majority of my time listening to old crotchety rich people bitch and moan: the rough is too long, the greens are too fast, what’s with the sand trap on 15?  It’s a REALLY tough job, trust me, I used to be a member at a country club and I know.  Old people can be really nasty sometimes, but I digress.  One of the perks of working as a pro at a country club is that you get to play free golf, typically in the afternoons when the seniors are out for the early bird specials.  If I’m a golf pro, the last thing I want to do is play golf with the members so it’s always fun to drink a few beers, gamble and play a few holes with your buddies or peers.  That is where a guy like me comes in.  I always make friends with golf pros.  I head over to the club in the afternoon and play golf for nothing because they enjoy the company and who doesn’t wanna give a deal to their friends?  So even when I show up with my uncle with no intention of playing with them, they still let me off for free.  I know people who go to the same establishments week in and week out, yet they never bother to make friends with the help, BIG MISTAKE.  These people are usually bored, dislike their job and your presence can really add some excitement and fun to their day.  Think of all the times you’ve been stuck at a job and then your friend walks in or calls you on the phone, instant fun!  You can do this at restaurants, bars, etc…  If you go the same bar often and you don’t know the bartenders and you aren’t getting free drinks, you are really missing out on the perks!

More to come on this subject…
